DESCRIPTION ☞ Watercolor and gouache original painting of two hunters on snowshoes, tracking a moose. Painted in 1908 by Edwin Megargee and Copywritten the same year by Gubelman Publishing Co. NY. Based on our research, we think the piece was likely commissioned by them as a magazine cover or design in Megargee's early career. Signed and dated in pencil. Comes in antique wooden frame. Frame is missing one back wood panel. We did not want to remove the painting from its delicate frame so we have tried to take the best photos we could despite the reflection from the glass. Biography from artnet dot com:

"Edwin Megargee was an animal painter, illustrator, and etcher. He was born in 1883 in Mt. Airy , Pennsylvania. Throughout his educational career, he attended Georgetown University from 1899 to 1900, Drexel Institute in Philadelphia from 1900 to 1904, and finally the Art Students League from 1904 to 1905.

He was a breeder and painter of gun dogs and wrote and illustrated several illustrated dog dictionaries. He also painted horses, cattle and cock-fighting scenes. The running greyhound logo for the Greyhound Bus Co. was designed by Megargee. He was on the board of directors of the American Kennel Club. Several of his game-shooting scenes appeared in "Field & Stream" throughout the 1940s-50s. Edwin Megargee died in 1958."

DIMENSIONS & WEIGHT ☞ Frame is 68cm tall and 55cm wide

CONDITION ☞ Due to its age, the frame has taken on some wear on the wood and is missing one back panel. Glass is good, no scratches. Painting itself is like new. Please see photos.
