Barbour Silver Co. Serving Set Quadruple Dipped Silver Plated Sugar Creamer and Spooner

FOR SALE ☞ Three Piece Quadruple Silver Tea Set by the Barbour Silver Co. c.1921

DESCRIPTION ☞ This delicate three-piece serving set was made by the Barbour Brothers Co. in Hartford Connecticut sometime between 1921 and 1931. It features a pot for sugar with a solid lid (no holes for spoon), a creamer pitcher and a double handled vessel for spoons. The engraving is an incredibly fine floral design, featured on all three items. On the bottom of each piece is the circular stamp of the Barbour Silver Co. stating these pieces are quadruple plated, as well as the catalogue number "2411."

Contrary to popular belief, quadruple plated silver does NOT mean that the item has been plated four times. It simply means it has been plated with four times as much pure .925 silver as any other plated item. This just means that the pieces have quite a but more silver than most plated items you find. It was considered some of the highest quality silver products in the 19th century.

"The Barbour Silver Co. was established in 1892—a little over a decade after the Barbour brothers first went into business together. From its Hartford location, this silversmithing firm created fine hollowware of both the silver-plated and sterling varieties. Its specialties were the production of engraved or chased pieces, the bases thereof being nickel silver. Between 1921 and 1931, Barbour crafted a large number of “Dutch” silver-plated copper products. So well-known for its plated pieces was Barbour that it incorporated the phrase “quadruple plate” into several of its maker’s marks. 1931 was the year the Wilcox & Evertsen plant closed, and with it went Barbour Silver Co., whose trademark after that became inactive." - from Worthpoint.com

DIMENSIONS ☞ The creamer and spooner stand 4.5" tall and the sugar pot stands 7" with the lid.

CONDITION ☞ This set is in pristine condition and carries a lovely patina. Please note, we do not clean our silver pieces, so a proper clean and polish will be left up to the buyer.
