Japanese Geisha Doll Traditional Handmade Doll from the 1940s

FOR SALE ☞ Traditional Japanese Geisha Doll

DESCRIPTION ☞ A very delicate, handmade traditional Japanese Geisha Doll, made sometime in the 1940s. Made out of fabric, soft material and wood. Styled in a red kimono with black and gold obi, she is holding a helmet above her head and has many fine details added, particularly in her hair. She stands on a wooden platform with a signature written in pencil on the very bottom.

This doll was brought to us with the story that it was made and sold by a Japanese woman while her family was interned in Kaslo, BC to make some extra money during the second world war. This doll only ever had one owner, who bought it directly from the lady who made it. While we have no tangible provenance to prove this to be true or not, we feel that in the event it is true, her story of perseverance should live on with her dolls.

DIMENSIONS ☞ This doll stands approximately 12" tall. Her base is 6" in length.

CONDITION ☞ This doll is in good shape for it's age. The base does have a split in the wood but it doesn't seem to move or prove to be unstable. The hair on the doll is a bit miskempt, and a side of the helmet has let go from dried out glue. You can tell that she is delicately pieced together, and we feel she would be best preserved in a glass cabinet to admire. Please see photos.
